Ulster Flying Club’s annual open day and Fly-In is on Sunday, August 4th, 2024 at Newtownards Airfield from 10 am – 6 pm. The Ulster Flying Club (UFC) will have a variety of aircraft on static display. They will also have a group of Flying Instructors available to discuss flying lessons and a shop selling flying equipment, UFC merchandise, toys and models. No tickets are required to attend this event.
Experiences available on the day:
- Aeroplane Flights: Experience the thrill of aerial sightseeing with scenic aeroplane flights over the Ards Peninsula. Choose from 20-minute flights in 2-seat or 4-seat aircraft, with limited slots available for online purchase at www.ulsterflyingclub.com/shop
- Helicopter Flights: Helipower will be offering helicopter flights throughout the day, providing an unforgettable airborne experience.
Getting There:
For those travelling by public transport, there are two bus stops approximately 100 meters from the entrance (Shore Road or Bus Garage at Londonderry Park). Special Sunday bus services will be available to and from Newtownards Station, ensuring easy access for visitors.
Parking and Facilities:
Parking will be available on-site for £2 for the day. Parking is next to the runway, offering a prime view of the aircraft. Please avoid parking on Portaferry Road to prevent congestion. Toilet facilities, including baby changing facilities, are located inside the main clubhouse building and beside the windsock area.

Important Reminders:
- Please note that drones of any kind are strictly prohibited at the event.
- Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. A fresh water supply will be provided.
- ATM facilities are not available on-site, and most vendors take cash for their activities. The nearest ATM can be found at the Texaco Petrol station on the Portaferry Road.
