ISTAT Foundation Aviation Academy

Shannon Aviation Museum is delighted to announce the inaugural ISTAT Foundation Easter Aviation Academy, especially for young people in 1st -6th year who have a passion for aviation and want to learn more! It will take place from 25th-29th April.

During this fascinating week, students get to learn about flight and some of the engineering that makes it possible. They will meet real role models working in the aviation world. They will also learn about the Aircraft Leasing sector and the history of its beginnings right here in Shannon. An ISTAT member will explain their role in commercial aviation and how ISTAT Foundation is a valuable resource for them in the future.

The week also includes a behind the scenes tour of Vortex aircraft engine repair facility, an LCETB Shannon Aircraft Maintenance training centre and a tour of a live aircraft maintenance hangar at Atlantic Aviation Group. It’s a real eye-opener for future engineers!

Plus, everyone gets a chance to fly the B737NG flight simulator with an airline pilot, an amazing highlight of the week! If you have a passion for aviation and are in 1st – 6th year, just complete the application and explain why you want to attend! About the Author

Mark is an airline pilot flying the Boeing 737 for a major European airline. In addition he is also a Type Rating Instructor, Type Rating Examiner and Base Training Captain on the B737. Outside of commercial flying Mark enjoys flying light aircraft from the smallest 3 Axis microlights up to heavier singles. He is also an instructor and EASA Examiner on single engines and a UK CAA Examiner. He flies the Chipmunk for the Irish Historic Flight Foundation (IHFF). Mark became the Chairman of the National Microlight Association of Ireland (NMAI) in 2013 and has overseen a massive growth in the organisation. In this role he has worked at local and national levels. In 2015, Mark won ‘Upcoming Aviation Professional Award’ at the Aviation Industry Awards sponsored by the IAA. Mark launched this website back in 2002 while always managing the website, he has also been Editor and Deputy Editor of FlyingInIreland Magazine from 2005 to 2015.
