United Nations Troop Rotation
Another troop rotation with Irish Troops took place today from Dublin Airport to Beruit in Lebanon using a United Nations chartered Boeing 767. The aircraft was wearing the ‘United Nations’ colours and is operated by Ethiopian Airlines, it had arrived in Dublin late last night from Addis Ababa. It departed early this morning with members of the 118th Battalion for the UN Peacekeeping Tour under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Conor Bates. The total number of personnel deploying to UNIFIL with the 118th Infantry Battalion will be 352, including eleven Maltese troops. Of those travelling there will be 18 female troops will be deploying with the Battalion. 78 personnel will be travelling on their first tour of duty. The return flight to Dublin this evening brought home members of the 117th Battalion and a second rotation on 31st May will complete the changeover of the troops currently on duty in Lebanon.
