Serious fire at Bombardier factory
A serious fire has broken out at the Bombardier factory in Belfast where wings for the Bombardier series of Regional Jet are made. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a call around 8.45pm on Sunday evening with reports of a blaze on the Airport Road in East Belfast. The extent of the damage is not yet known but a large plume of smoke can be seen across the city. There is no reports of any injuries at this time. The fire service said six pumping appliances, one aerial appliance, and a high-volume pump are being used to contain the fire. Although it is too early to speculate on the damage but initial reports say that it is ‘significant’. Over 3,000 people are employed at the site and many have only recently began returning to work following the COVID-19 lockdown.
